Local, Holistic Healthcare Practitioner Begins Campaign "Healing Humboldt"

Arcata, California. July 15, 2008. Bruce Anderson, Reiki Master, Massage Therapist,
and Holistic, Health Practitioner, proposes an "open source" health awareness
campaign called Healing Humboldt, aimed at all county residents and championed by
area holistic practitioners and other healthcare workers.

Healing Humboldt is a philosophy of viewing our county as an actual person, a living
organism, instead of a thing or a place. When we personify something, we care for it
on a deeper level. If we personify Humboldt County, we can enter into a healing
process of addressing less-than-desirable aspects of life here. We can begin to view
ourselves, our bodies, as an extension of that larger organism and actively work to
transform aspects that are not serving the overall health of the county and the
people who live here. We can think about making better personal lifestyle choices,
like resting when we are sick or eating better foods and making more effective
community choices that bring balanced solutions for the whole county rather than
solutions that are \"symptomatic fixes\" for only parts of the county.

The campaign that Anderson envisions, and has begun to advertise in various places
throughout Humboldt County, is "open source" in that, many people will take the
concept and make it their own through the use of educational items, workshops,
bumper stickers, Tee-shirts, banners, and articles in local media. The goal of the
campaign is to promote awareness not as political agenda but as a statement of
agreed common interest. It is from this common agreement that the county can begin
a meaningful dialog. From City Hall to individual residents, we ask questions; we
listen. We seek knowledge. We strive for equilibrium. We invite healing in all its
forms. This is the mission of the Healing Humboldt campaign.
